Demi Moore has made a heartbreaking confession regarding the personal impact of one of her most iconic roles.

In a conversation with Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh for Interview magazine, Moore revealed how the recognition and intense scrutiny she received over her appearance in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle sent her into a downward spiral.

Moore has revealed that she ended up questioning if there was even a “place” for her in Hollywood anymore as a result of the conversation regarding her looks.

“What’s interesting is I felt [criticism] more when I hit my 40s. I had done Charlie’s Angels, and there was a lot of conversation around this scene in a bikini, and it was all very heightened, a lot of talk about how I looked,” Moore told Michelle Yeoh for Interview magazine. “And then I found that there didn’t seem to be a place for me. I didn’t feel like I didn’t belong. It’s more like I felt that feeling of, I’m not 20, I’m not 30, but I wasn’t yet what they perceived as a mother.”

Moore, who was 40 years old when she appeared in the 2003 film, said she felt at the time that her journey as an actress might be “complete”.

“Where do I fit in? It was a time that felt, not dead, but flat,” Moore said. “I don’t know if I’ve ever done that when I’ve come up against something that I don’t understand exists as a limitation.”

She continued: “There was a moment, I have to say, where I started to wonder, is this really what I should be doing? Maybe that part of my life is complete. Not even over, but complete. Then I realised, if I’m questioning it, then I need to inject it with energy so that I know for sure.”

Yeoh then chimed in with her shared experience, highlighting the fact that “Hollywood is cruel to women of that age.

“It’s either, you are the mother or you’re old enough not to be sexy in their eyes. It’s like, why can’t a 45-year-old, a 50-year-old or 60-year-old, be sexy,” she said.

“But that whole perception is undergoing a lot of change because people like you and me won’t sit back and just take it.”

Moore has been known in recent years for showing off her age-defying figure on red carpets and on the big screen.
