‘Hijack his campaign’: Waleed Aly slams ‘legal rape’ leader Daryush ‘Roosh V’ Valizadeh

WALEED Aly has lashed out at the “sexist man-beast” targeting Australia with his advocacy for “legal rape”, calling on us to hijack his campaign.

WALEED Aly has slammed the controversial “legal rape” advocate threatening to visit Australia, calling on Aussies to “hijack” his campaign.

So-called “pick-up artist” Daryush ‘Roosh V’ Valizadeh has made headlines as the founder of

Return of Kings, a US-based international web group for “heterosexual, masculine men”, whose members argued rape should be legal on private property.

In an editorial aired on Tuesday night’s The Project, Aly described Roosh V as “sexist, provocative, homophobic, elitist, smug and offensive” and encouraged people to not fall for his “formula” for attention.

“First, he says things of varying levels of offensiveness. He might oddly obsess about women’s footwear, unintentionally revealing more about himself than the women he’s criticising,” Aly began, referring to a video Valizadeh uploaded that shows him ranting about women who wear thongs and “dirty sneakers”.

Aly then brought up Valizadeh’s suggestions that “we make the violent taking of a woman not punishable by law when done off public grounds”.

“It is that sort of revolting, provocative statement that catches our attention, not so much the shoe fetish stuff,” he continued. “Once Roosh V has our attention, he announces he intends to visit a country for a meet-up with like-minded man-beasts. In July last year he announced he would head to Canada to give paid speeches — and Canada lost its mind.

“Once the mainstream media takes the bait, Roosh trolls the public through his various social media channels, revelling in the free publicity and extending the life of the news story.”

Comparing Valizadeh’s messages to those you’d find “scrawled, misspelt on the back of a piss-soaked, broken public toilet door”, Aly then lamented the inevitable media coverage Valizadeh receives. He said the media reports provoke readers and viewers to share Valizadeh’s ideas out of outrage on social media — in turn making him viral.

Instead of expressing disapproval on social media and giving Valizadeh further coverage, Aly encouraged Aussies to counter his mission by “hijacking his campaign”.

“Instead of linking to articles about Roosh V or responding to his calculated, vile tweets which just keep him trending, I challenge you to click something else,” he said.

“Specifically, click on your social media and share a link to Lou’s Place. This is a women’s refuge in Sydney. You have never heard of them because they don’t troll people with deliberately outrageous sexist comments and they are not pumped up, self-important media hacks who give trolls like that attention.

“They actually do amazing work and receive no ongoing government funding. They rely on donations from people like you,” he said, before suggesting viewers donate to the refuge.

“Let’s hijack everything this guy stands for. Click something else.”
