SEVEN presenter Grant Denyer has hit back at explosive claims that he and his wife Chezzi checked into a rehab facility late last year to treat a $200,000-a-year meth addiction.

Woman’s Day has today reported that the couple confessed to friends that their three-year methamphetamine habit had become so severe it was costing them up to $4000 a week.

The magazine said the pair attended a four-week program at The Cabin, a $14,000-a-month facility in Chang Mai, Thailand in November last year to treat their addiction.

The Denyers admit that they did spend time at The Cabin, however strongly deny the magazine’s reports that it was for drug issues in a statement released to news.com.au.

“Claims that the couple have a drug addiction and that Grant recently lost his Channel 7 contract are both false,” says the joint statement from Grant and Chezzi Denyer, released by the former Sunrise weatherman’s manager Titus Day. “They are currently taking legal advice on what action can be taken against the magazine.

“Grant and Chezzi Denyer are saddened by the highly defamatory article in this week’s Woman’s Day Magazine. The couple have been under immense stress in recent months due to Grant dealing with chronic fatigue brought on by exhaustion and an ongoing unknown stomach illness. Chezzi has also been dealing with PTSD and anxiety issues resulting from Grant’s condition.”

The 36-year-old TV personality has since tweeted a photo of himself looking relaxed and healthy from Mount Panorama in Bathurst.

The statement continues: “The wellness centre they attended in Thailand specialises in the treatment of PTSD and exhaustion and they spent four weeks there to finally address these ongoing health concerns. With their conditions now under control they are healthier and happier than they have ever been.

“Grant, Chezzi and their young daughter Sailor are an extremely tight family unit and the hurtful and irresponsible article has hit them hard. They wish to thank their family, close friends, Channel 7 and members of the media who continue to support them through these tough times.”

Alastair Mordey, the program director at The Cabin Chiang Mai, told news.com.au that “Grant and Chezzi Denyer were both in treatment at The Cabin Chiang Mai for work exhaustion, executive burnout, anxiety, and PTSD”.

“They were both highly motivated during treatment and the episode resulted in a successful outcome,” the statement read.

The magazine claims they spoke to several of the couple’s close friends who insisted Denyer’s chronic health problems were not due to illness, but his “heavy reliance on crystal meth to get him through each day”.

They added that the 36-year-old reportedly started using small amounts of the drug to keep him alert as the early starts required on Sunrise left him tired, while Chezzi had previously used it to lose weight.

The mag also reports Denyer lost his $750,000 contract with Seven just days into his stay at the rehab facility — a claim he also denies.

Denyer and Chezzi were married in 2010 and have a two-year-old daughter Sailor, who was reportedly being cared for by Chezzi’s parents during their treatment in Thailand.

He smashed the vertebrae in his back in 2008 after a monster truck accident which resulted in an intensive four-month course of medication.

He later told The Daily Telegraph the drugs were so strong he was “doped up and half the time I thought I was a horse and the rest of the time I would only answer to the name Nigel”.

The Cabin Chiang Mai describe themselves on their website as “Asia’s best and most respected drug rehab and alcohol addiction treatment centre.”

“Being recognised as the best drug rehab in the region, and one of the best drug rehab centres in the world, sees The Cabin attracting clients from all over the globe.”

British rock star Pete Doherty was kicked out of the exclusive treatment facility after failing to show he was ready to kick his heroin habit in 2012.
