Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie filming in Sydney for season two of Top of the Lake

GWENDOLINE Christie will join the cast of the acclaimed drama Top of the Lake, as filming begins on its second series in Sydney.

JANE Campion’s noir thriller Top of the Lake has expanded its star-studded cast for season two. Shooting on the BBC First and Foxtel co-production began earlier this week in various Sydney locations.

Elisabeth Moss — who won a Golden Globe for her role in the miniseries — is now joined by Gwendoline Christie, best known for her role as warrior Brienne of Tarth in Game of Thrones.

The hotly in demand Christie said that she is delighted to be part of a show she was already a fan of.

“Jane Campion has been a major creative influence throughout my life and I could not feel more privileged,” she said.

Aussie actors Alice Englart (Beautiful Creatures) and Ewen Leslie (The Daughter) are also newcomers to the cast.

Season two will pick up four years on from where we last left the show. Detective Robin Griffin (Moss) is tasked with solving a case in which an unidentified body of an Asian girl washes up on Sydney’s Bondi Beach.

“I’m so excited to be back in Australia,” said Moss of the show’s return. “I can’t wait for audiences to see where we take Robin’s journey.”
