Winter isn’t coming: why we’re going to have to wait for more Game of Thrones

WINTER is here in Game of Thrones. And sadly, that means we’re in for a bit of a wait before we find out what happens next.

Brace yourselves, Game of Thrones fans. We’re going to have to wait a bit longer to find out what happens next.

Last we checked on the seven kingdoms, winter was finally here. That means the endgame is edging closer, and the Night King and his crew of White Walkers will be able to march from the north on Westeros. A lot of major players had been brutally killed, Jon Snow is king of the North, and Daenerys Targaryen is planning to take over the world.

It also means fans are going to have to wait longer for season seven, because the production team needs more time to film during colder weather.

The show normally premieres in April, but creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have revealed on the UFC Unfiltered podcast (yep, that’s right) it’s likely to return to our screens later in 2017.

“We don’t have an airdate yet, but this year it’ll probably be a bit later, ‘cause we’re starting a bit later,” they confirmed.

“’Winter is Here’ and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes anymore. So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim, grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

No specific date has been given yet.

In the meantime, here’s a recap of Season 6.
