Game of Thrones’ Charles Dance not a fan of show’s finale

He was killed off in season four but that didn’t stop Charles Dance enjoying further seasons of Game of Thrones. That is, until the finale came along.

Game of Thrones: The Best Scenes EVER

There’s no denying Game of Thrones is one of the best shows to ever air on television.

That is, the first seven seasons of it.

Unfortunately the eighth and final season let down millions of fans who felt it was “rushed”. And some of the show’s stars themselves have revealed they feel the same way.

The latest actor to speak against the final season is Charles Dance, who played Tywin Lannister – up until his uber satisfying death (sitting on a toilet) in season four at the hands of his son, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage).

Dance, 73, said he continued watching the show, which streams on Binge, following his departure.

“I mean, I saw it (the finale),” Dance told People.

“I continue(d) to watch the whole series even after I’d been killed off in the lavatory. Because I just thought it’s a fantastic television show, you know?

“I was very lucky to be part of it. I loved it. There were storylines (where) I wanted to know what was going to happen to these people.

“I know that the finale satisfied a lot of people. It also disappointed a lot of people, and I’m afraid I am in the latter camp.”

Dance backed up that low-key bomb by applauding the show’s writers D.B. Weiss and Dan Benioff, who copped harsh backlash after the final episode aired.

“I think David and Dan raised the bar when it came to television screenplay writing,” he said.

“They are phenomenal. And for the whole thing to end up as a committee, I just thought, ‘Hmm, no.’ I would say I was somewhat underwhelmed by.”

Emilia Clarke, whose character Daenerys Targaryen’s spiral into a proper mad queen was the cause of fan’s disappointment, has also said she thought the series ended a little abruptly.

“I knew how I felt when I first read it, and I tried, at every turn, not to consider too much what other people might say,” she told The Sunday Times in March. “But I did always consider what the fans might think – because we did it for them, and they were the ones who made us successful, so … it’s just polite, isn’t it?

“We could have spun it out for a little longer,” she said.

Elsewhere Kit Harington, who played fan fave Jon Snow, vehemently defended the series’ final events.

“I think no matter what anyone thinks about this season – and I don’t mean to sound mean about critics here – but whatever critic spends half an hour writing about this season and makes their negative judgement on it, in my head they can go f**k themselves,” Harington told Esquire last year.

Cue all the people who signed a petition for season eight to be rewritten: “You know nothing Jon Snow.”
