President Obama tries to name every dead Game of Thrones character
WE knew President Obama was a big Game of Thrones fan, but how does he stack up when it comes to recounting the show’s mammoth body count?
BY NOW it’s common knowledge that President Barack Obama is a big Game of Thrones fan — so much so he sometimes receives advance copies of the HBO hit.
But how does he stack up when it comes to recounting the show’s mammoth body count?
At least 100 characters have died across six seasons of Game of Thrones, and Obama did his best naming as many of the dearly departed as he could manage in a new video.
“All right, you got Ned, Rob, Khal Drogo, Jon — but maybe that doesn’t really count,” said Obama.
“Renly, Summer, Shaggydog and then Hodor, that was sad,” he continued, looking off camera wistfully.
Obama took the challenge for a Buzzfeed video to demonstrate things that are harder to do than registering to vote, ahead of the upcoming US Presidential election.
Obama’s not the only one hooked on Game of Thrones: The season six final episode of the hit HBO fantasy drama was the number one program on Foxtel on Monday.
It recorded a total audience of 737,000 with more viewers to add once the consolidated data becomes available.
The only show GoT had to beat for the record was itself — the previous record was set earlier this year when the premiere episode of season six drew 727,000 viewers.
Those behind the show have admitted that they do make sure the US President has early access to episodes whenever he wants them.
“One perk of being the most powerful man in the world: yes, you get to see episodes early,” showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told Vanity Fair.
Let’s hope he’s worked that into his post-Presidential retirement package.
