Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage explains controversial finale twist
It was the ending that had the whole world reeling, but Peter Dinklage has revealed why it had to happen in a convincing explanation.
Bran Stark being crowned king in the Game of Thrones finale was a shock to almost everyone – but not to Peter Dinklage.
The actor, who played Tyrion Lannister in the HBO series, has given a convincing explanation as to why it was the only logical way to end the fantasy saga, despite the decision leaving fans reeling.
Speaking in a new documentary available on the Game of Thrones box set, the actor says: “I wasn’t surprised by Bran.
“Bran is the only probably pure person in there.
“The idea that he cannot father children is the real key for Tyrion’s reasoning, because they have repeated the cycle in Westerosian history of heirs being really bad.”
However, fans of GoT, which is available to stream on Foxtel Now, have pointed out that Tyrion Lannister was the “real king”.
Fans had begged for a different ending to the fantasy epic drama and claimed that Tyrion, should have been enthroned as the last remaining Lannister alive.
Bran Stark became ruler instead of show favourites Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow and Sansa Stark – leaving viewers annoyed.
Daenerys was murdered by Jon, who didn’t want the job, while Sansa was never even nominated.
One person surmised: “Cersei was Queen, Dany the usurper was dead. Jon, her killer didn’t want it.
They added: “Guess what that means f***ers? Tyrion was the next family member, by blood, to the throne.
“That’s why they let him pick the next king, and make the ruling that the throne would no longer be passed by blood.”
Viewers were left devastated by the ending when a dramatic twist saw the Three Eyed Raven nab the throne.
But Bran, played by Isaac Hempstead Wright, only had six kingdoms after the North was given independence.
Meanwhile, Jon’s subsequent exile to Castle Black and emotional farewell with the rest of the Stark family brought up a lot of questions about the way his story ended.
But he was reunited with his beloved direwolf Ghost as he began his new life away with the Wildlings.

The final moments of the show also saw the different Starks preparing for their new lives. Arya was left exploring lands out West, Sansa was the Queen of the North and Jon was seen travelling beyond the wall with Tormund and the rest of the Wildlings.
