Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin: ‘I have more flexibility for killing people’
IF Game of Thrones is known for one thing, it’s mercilessly killing off characters. Who’s next on author George R.R. Martin’s hit list?
IF GAME of Thrones is known for one thing, it’s mercilessly killing off major characters.
I’m sure many of us have wished George R.R. Martin would have some sympathy when it comes to choosing who to kill off next. But, according to the man himself, things are only going to get more bleak.
Martin recently spoke about murdering off characters. Typically, he has been limited in his choices because the characters have been so spread out.
He needs certain characters to serve as the narrators for given scenarios. But, as the major characters begin to come together, he will have more leeway.
“The way my books are structured, everyone was together, then they all went their separate ways and the story deltas out like that. And now it’s getting to the point where the story is beginning to delta back in. The viewpoint characters are meeting up with each other and being in the same point at the same time … Which gives me a lot more flexibility for killing people,” he said.
That news either depresses you terribly or excites the hell out of you. I’d hate to see great characters like Tyrion or Khaleesi meet their ends, but it also opens up a whole new world of exciting possibilities.
Only time will tell who lives and who dies.
