Erin Molan announces new political show with Sky News
Former Footy Show host Erin Molan has announced her next move after leaving Channel 9, and it’s a long way from the footy field.
Former Footy Show host Erin Molan is set to join Sky News with her own 7pm show.
The new program, simply named “Erin”, will begin airing June 19 on the network. Molan, who has had a long career in television, said she was keen to break back into politics after years of sport broadcasting.
“Just because I can be silly and funny and all of those things, does not mean that I don’t also have a real passion for politics or that I can’t be credible in other spaces,” Molan told The Daily Telegraph.
“I have always deeply loved news and it has always been my passion, I have just been waiting for an opportunity to delve into that.”
Her show will temporarily replace Sharri Markson’s program “Sharri” while she is on maternity leave.
“As my show launches, I think that the perception that maybe I am just that sports chick or that chick from The Footy Show will change,” Molan continued.
“Being a host on television, it doesn’t really matter what the subject matter is.
“I have done entertainment, news bulletins, sport, I’ve hosted ridiculous segments on The
Footy Show.
“None of those things make me any less legitimate in another space. The ability to do a lot of different things, to laugh at yourself and be silly but also to be serious and credible when required, I don’t think any of those things are mutually exclusive.”
Molan will continue co-hosting her 2Day FM breakfast show alongside Dave Hughes and Ed Kavalee in 2022.
Speaking on radio show in September, Molan told co-hosts Hughes and Kavalee she had taken up a piece of their advice to help put her recent break-up behind her.
“When I first told you guys that my partner and I had separated, Hughesy you said one advantage to this — apart from a few others — is that you can listen to break-up songs and cry,” she said.
“I realised yesterday when I had an hour to myself that I hadn’t done that yet, so I put on break-up songs and it was amazing.”
