Drama still reigns for Nathan Fillion’s Castle and Stana Katic’s Beckett in mid-season finale

Castle and Beckett are together, but it couldn’t get any more complicated, as Aussies catch up with the US on the mid-season finale.

ACROSS eight seasons, Castle has continued to deliver a special blend of crime, comedy and drama with aplomb, thanks first to the will-they-or-won’t they get together antics of stars Castle (Nathan Fillion) and Beckett (Stana Katic), and more recently with the ‘they did, and it’s complicated’ storyline which saw many series before them fall by the wayside.

This week sees Australian fans of the US drama all caught up with American audiences, with two episodes wrapping up 2016 — finishing with the mid-season finale.

Sunday night sees the troubled duo still on a relationship break — despite their looming first anniversary.

Wednesday night’s mid-season finale, aptly titled Mr and Mrs Castle is a nod to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s movie Mr & Mrs Smith — with Castle’s typically quirky and complicated results.

Castle showrunners Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter promised US media there’s plenty in store for next year.

“We’re not leaving you with a cliffhanger, but the promise of what it will be like when we come back,” Hawley said.

The pair make no apology for putting the show’s fans ‘through a lot’ in the first half of this season — but promise the dividends will be worth come Castle’s return next year.

“These are two characters that have been through a lot over the last eight years. A lot of emotionally tense, traumatic experiences,” Winter told journalists.

“Some of the things we’ve put these folks through … There’s going to be stuff both Beckett and Castle have to work through.”

Hawley promised the mid-season finale lets the audience in on a joke which ‘delightfully, allows us to have fun that we couldn’t have otherwise.’
