THEY say age is just a number but in Tim Bailey’s case, it’s the source of much confusion. So how old is the bubbly Ten weather presenter?

THEY say age is just a number but, in Tim Bailey’s case, it’s the source of much confusion.

If you Google “Tim Bailey age”, it says the popular Ten weather presenter is 63 years old.

But Wikipedia says he’s 54 and the varying results have caused enough confusion that there’s even a Reddit thread dedicated to the mystery.

“You’re telling me that the young surfer dude that introduced me to Ren and Stimpy back in the day was older than my dad at the time?” wrote one Reddit user, “My brain has just been f**ked.”

As for the man himself, he finds the whole thing rather humorous.

“So many people ask me about it, on my Twitter feed, on the street,” Bailey said to news.com.au

“People ask me as much about my age as they do about the weather, which is a lot.”

So how old is he?

“I was born in 1963 which makes me 54 [he celebrated his birthday yesterday], but the 63 thing just keeps going and going and going.”

According to Bailey, the confusion started after he spoke to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa on the radio last year.

“They called up and said they couldn’t believe that I was 63 years old,” he explained.

“It was a bit of a shock to me. I just joked to them that it’s all thanks to the Ten Network, it just keeps you looking young. Very few people know that Grant Denyer is 75 and Matt ‘The Cravat’ Preston is 90,’” he said at the time.

From there “it just kind of snowballed”.

“Newspapers were picking it up and it just started going ballistic. People always think I look younger than I am, which is a lovely thing but the 63 thing, I think that came from a simple f**k up that was printed once and just got reprinted over and over.”

Bailey’s age was the subject of several jokes last Friday night at a function celebrating his 25-year anniversary at Ten.

“Everyone was calling me an old fart,” Bailey said. “Sandra Sully got up and said I was one of the nicest 63-year-old’s that she’s ever met.”

So there you have it. Despite what some news sites have mistakenly claimed in the past (including this one) Tim Bailey is still as least a decade away from being eligible for the pension.
