The Project regular Georgie Tunny is joining the show full-time next month, news.com.au can exclusively reveal.

The 31-year-old journalist, who has been hosting daily segments on Foxtel’s news streaming service Flash while also appearing on the Channel 10 panel show, has secured the position after filling in for Carrie Bickmore while she was on extended leave earlier this year.

Tunny, who is engaged to former Australian Idol star Rob Mills, shared the role with The Masked Singer judge Chrissie Swan.

A Ten spokesperson told news.com.au today: “The Project is excited to announce that broadcaster Georgie Tunny is joining the show in a permanent role.

“Georgie has done an exceptional job keeping the seat warm for Carrie while she took long service leave, and quickly became a loved and respected member of The Project team.”

The spokesperson explained that Tunny would be “producing and reporting” news stories, as well as hosting when needed.

For the past year, Georgie Tunny has been working at Flash, a first-of-its-kind dedicated news streaming service, presenting its daily news bulletins.

“I’m really excited to take on this new role at The Project, which will see me develop further as a journalist and storyteller,” Tunny told news.com.au.

“I’ve really loved working at Flash, a streaming service that allows Aussies to choose the way they consume their news. The team is so talented. I will keep cheering on the platform and will follow its success closely!”

In March, it was announced Tunny would be filling Bickmore’s seat while the media personality was in the UK with her family.

At the time, Tunny gushed over the program on social media.

“I cannot wait to get started! I’ve been working with The Project team over the last four years and they really are some of the best and most talented people in the industry,” she wrote at the time.

“I’ve always been drawn to The Project’s central ethos – news delivered differently – and think it’s so important to tell the stories of everyday Australians and help them make informed decisions, whatever they may be.

“Carrie’s been a great supporter of mine, and though they are massive shoes to fill, I’m looking forward to the challenge!”
