An Australian Limp Bizkit fan has been left “crying” over frontman Fred Durst’s sweet gesture during his recent Sydney show.

The iconic nu-metal band, from Florida in the US, performed at the Hordern Pavilion on Thursday night as part of their Australian tour for the Good Things festival.

In a short clip shared to TikTok by concertgoer Lauren, Durst, 53, can be seen pausing in the middle of hit song My Way as he noticed that she was crying.

“You okay? … Alright,” the singer asked her, gesturing to her kindly, before continuing with the show.

“POV: Fred Durst asking me if OK cuz (sic) I was crying (happy tears),” Lauren captioned the footage.

Elsewhere during Limp Bizkit’s electrifying performance, another fan threw a pair of women’s underwear onto the stage, which Durst promptly wrapped around his microphone.

With George Michael ballad Careless Whisper playing in the background, the legendary singer asked the audience to slow dance together, telling them playfully: “We’re making friends out here, it’s all love in Sydney.”

It marked a rare Aussie performance for Limp Bizkit, who enjoyed massive success in the late 90s and early noughties and have sold 40 million records globally.

Durst’s considerate act at his recent Sydney gig comes after the band’s performance at the now-defunct Big Day Out festival in 2001 resulted in the death of a fan.

Jessica Mihalik, 15, was fatally injured in a crowd crush while Limp Bizkit performed, and died days later in Concord Hospital.

The incident led to the installation of “D-barriers” at all subsequent Big Day Outs, until the festival’s final instalment in 2014.

Durst remained angry over the tragic incident at the event in the years that followed, telling fans at the 2012 Soundwave festival that he’d warned BDO organisers prior to their 2001 set that there were “too many f***ing people here, and there’s no barricades. We ain’t f***ing playing.”

He then reportedly claimed the band had been forced on stage.

“We lost a human being named Jessie,” the singer said, according to a Sydney Morning Herald report published at the time.

“So as much as we’re here to be with you tonight – which we really are – our feet on your ground, in your house, in Australia, right now today, on February 25, 2012 – is a tribute. A tribute to Jessica.”

Durst then dedicated their song My Way to the teenager.
