Behind the scenes story suggests hidden reason Victoria Beckham won’t rejoin Spice Girls
FANS are angry Victoria Beckham won’t join the Spice Girls reunion tour — but one telling behind-the-scenes story may reveal just why she won’t do it.
THE Spice Girls today finally confirmed the worst-kept secret in show business: They’re reuniting for a tour, without Victoria Beckham’s involvement.
Beckham gave her former bandmates her blessing — even contributing a glowing quote to the tour announcement press release — but it hasn’t stopped some fans complaining about her absence.
Thinks she’s too good for the Spice Girls, some suggested. Too wrapped up in her fashion label to clear a two-week hole in her schedule next year for a handful of performances.
Victoria Beckham is too good, I mean, too âbusyâ to tour with the rest of them. Sureð¬ #spicegirls #monday pic.twitter.com/oXDpfs2omu

At this point I am tired of Posh holding my girls back. In true posh fashion Victoria is too posh and too rich to actually work again.

But one telling behind the scenes story from what may have been the Spice Girls last-ever performance as a five-piece may go some way to explaining Beckham’s refusal to join.
The date was August 12, 2012: The closing ceremony of the London Olympics. Music legends like Annie Lennox, George Michael and the Pet Shop Boys were on the bill, but it was a surprise performance by the Spice Girls — riding around Olympic Stadium atop black cabs, singing a medley of hits Wannabe and Spice Up Your Life — that became the most talked-about moment of the ceremony.
The fivesome appeared thoroughly at home on stage, despite not having performed together in four years. But backstage was a different story, as Beckham battled nerves that soon turned into a “full blown panic attack”.
“I was in the taxi with Emma before we started and I nearly just got out of the car. I was so nervous. I felt sick and Emma was so amazing. Honestly, that’s how you know a real friend. If it wasn’t for her, I would not have been out there,” Beckham admitted in an interview with Heart FM after the Olympics.
A source told The Mirror just how serious the situation was:
“Victoria played down the incident but she basically had a full-on panic attack and was in a complete state. Emma was brilliant and gave her a big hug, saying, ‘It’s all gonna be OK, you look amazing’.”
The Spice Girls themselves say Victoria won’t be joining them on stage “because of her business commitments”, and we have no reason to doubt them. She’s forged a successful, full-time career as a fashion designer, but it’s also easy to forget it’s been almost two decades since she was a full-time pop star — who can blame her for hanging up her little black dress for good?
