THE popular Soundwave Festival has been officially cancelled for 2016, just days after its promoter confirmed next year’s event would be the last.
Soundwave promoter Arash “AJ” Maddah announced the end of the festival on social media today.
In a heavy-hearted post, he wrote on Twitter: “I am devastated to have to announce the cancellation of Soundwave 16 due to poor ticket sales. I am very sorry. I tried my best.”
“Thank you to all the fans, bands and people who supported the event for the last 12 years. I wish we could have ended it on a better note.”

Maddah’s tweets come after he told fans just days ago that the festival would not be going ahead in 2017.
He said the reason behind his decision to not go ahead with the 2017 festival was that it was “a lot of hard work and stress”.
He also mentioned there was a lot of “hate” that he gets from fans, which he wasn’t going to put up with anymore.
Yesterday, he tweeted that the axing of both festivals may be seen as a “triumph for the internet hate squad”.
Great triumph for the internet hate squad and the trolls. Congratulations guys. Only thing is, you are now fast running out of targets.
