AUSTRALIA’S popular Soundwave music festival will not be going ahead in 2017, after its boss broke the news on social media.

Arash “AJ” Maddah made the sudden announcement on Twitter, saying there will be “definitely no” 2017 edition of the Soundwave festival.

“It’s a lot of hard work, stress [and] risk in return for which we get hate & stupidity,” Mr Maddah said.

Responding to another Twitter follower, Mr Maddah said he would update followers with more information when he had it. He added he would be doing everything to make sure the 2016 shows go ahead.

Soundwave 2016 will be held in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Sydney in January. Acts confirmed to perform include Relient K, DARKC3LL, Walls of Jericho, Disturbed, Deftones, The Prodigy and many more.

Soundwave 2016 festival dates:

Saturday 23 January, 2016 — Brisbane

Sunday 24 January, 2016 — Sydney

Tuesday 26 January, 2016 — Melbourne
