He already has a reported net worth of $400 million, and in just one day, Justin Bieber has pocketed an extra $280 million.

The Canadian singer, 28, who shot to fame aged 14, has sold the rights to his music to Hipgnosis Songs Capital for the eye-watering sum, the company announced in a statement.

The British firm, founded by CEO Merck Mercuriadis, now owns Bieber’s entire stake of his 290 songs released before December 31, 2021, as well as his writer’s share.

“The impact of Justin Bieber on global culture over the last 14 years has truly been remarkable,” Mercuriadis said.

“This acquisition ranks among the biggest deals ever made for an artist under the age of 70, such is the power of this incredible catalogue that has almost 82 million monthly listeners and over 30 billion streams on Spotify alone.”

Braun, who discovered Bieber on YouTube in 2007 and has been his manager ever since, added of the “historic deal”: “When Justin made the decision to make a catalogue deal, we quickly found the best partner to preserve and grow this amazing legacy was Merck and Hipgnosis. For 15 years I have been grateful to witness this journey and today I am happy for all those involved. Justin’s greatness is just beginning.”

Any new Bieber songs will reportedly continue to be released by Universal Music, his long-time label, while his master recordings are still owned by UMG in perpetuity.

The news comes at a relatively quiet time in Bieber’s career, after the Sorry singer announced in September he was abruptly postponing his Justice world tour due to health issues.

Bieber, who married model Hailey Baldwin in 2018, revealed his battle with Ramsay Hunt syndrome in mid-2022, and said he was still struggling with the side effects.

“Earlier this year, I went public about my battle with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, where my face was partly paralysed. As the result of this illness, I was not able to complete the North America leg of the Justice Tour,” he wrote in a statement to TMZ.

“After resting and consulting with my doctors, family and team, I went to Europe in an effort to continue with the tour. I performed six live shows, but it took a real toll on me. This past weekend, I performed at Rock In Rio and I gave everything I have to the people in Brazil.”

He went on to say he was overcome with exhaustion after the show, and realised it was time to put his health first.

“I’m going to be OK, but I need time to rest and get better. I’ve been so proud to bring this show and our message of Justice to the world. Thank you for your prayers and support throughout all of this! I love you all passionately.”
