Dan Sultan indecent assault charge dropped
ARIA award-winning musician Dan Sultan was facing an indecent assault charge over an alleged incident at a party – but the charge has now been dropped.
A charge of indecent assault against ARIA-award winning musician Dan Sultan has been dropped.
Prosecutor Stephen Payne successfully applied in the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Thursday for the charge to be withdrawn.
He did not say why the charge had been struck out.
Mr Sultan — who is listed in court under the name Daniel Loorham — had been accused of indecently assaulting a woman at a party in Melbourne’s inner north in 2008.
Indecent assault is a sexual offence in which someone allegedly touches another person without consent.
The court heard the blues, rock, and children’s performer was charged with the historic offence in January.
The 37-year-old cancelled performances at three music festivals after the charge was reported in February.
But he appeared as a guest vocalist on Midnight Oil’s album The Makarrata Project released in October.
The singer did not appear in the online hearing in which the charge was struck out but was represented by his lawyer Kartya Gracer.
Mr Sultan has been contacted for comment.
