Australian and UK fans serve up stone cold sales for Katy Perry’s new single
KATY Perry, once the darling of the singles charts, is finding that there is little fan interest in her new single ‘Bon Appétit’.
WHERE have all Katy Perry’s fans gone?
Perry’s new single Bon Appétit entered the ARIA singles chart at No. 35 this week on 4358 sales.
This week’s No. 1, Justin Bieber and DJ Khalid’s I’m the One, sold 16,772 copies and was released on the same day as Perry’s song.
Perry’s previous release, Chained to the Rhythm, entered and peaked at No. 4 in February.
Bon Appetit also had a soft debut in the UK chart at No. 40 — unusually low for a pop superstar releasing brand new material from an upcoming album.

Perry’s public support of Hillary Clinton in last year’s US election was seen as a risky commercial move.
She declared herself “Artist. Activist. Conscious” on her Twitter bio.
Rhythm peaked at No. 4 in the US, No. 5 in the UK — the lead singles from Perry’s last two albums, California Gurls and Roar, were both global No. 1s.
Last year’s Olympic single Rise, which was critically panned, was an Australian No.1.
In Bon Appetit Perry sings “got me spread like a buffet, bon appetit baby” with other lyrics including “eat with your hands, fine, I’m on the menu” and “hope you’ve got some room for the world’s best cherry pie.”

Bon Appétit is No. 52 on the Global iTunes chart and debuted at No. 27 on the Australian radio airplay chart last week.
Bon Appétit also suffered from controversy over Perry’s choice of guest rappers, Migos.
The Bad and Boujee hitmakers had been accused of being homophobic over comments made over gay rapper iLoveMakonnen and being forced to state they “love all people gay or straight.”
Perry is due to release her fifth album this year.
Bon Appétit will get a boost when Perry releases a music video for the single, which was co-written by eight people including hit king Max Martin.

I was curious about @katyperry's new album when Chained⦠came out. Since Bon Appétit, not so much.
