Katy Perry slammed for Barack Obama joke
SINGER Katy Perry is under fire after cracking a joke about former US President Barack Obama during a bizarre livestream.
KATY Perry should probably leave the comedy to ex-husband Russell Brand.
The Bon Appétit singer left a bad taste in fans’ mouths when she made a joke about former President Barack Obama during a strange livestream on Saturday, The New York Post reports.
“Someone says, ‘I miss your old black hair,’” newly blonde Perry said into the camera.
“Oh, really? Do you miss Barack Obama as well? Oh, OK. Times change. Bye! See you guys later.”

The moment quickly went viral, and much of the response was far from positive.
“I’m sure we can all do without @katyperry right ??? #Loser,” one viewer tweeted. Another commented, “Not Katy Perry pretending to be a woke activist then making an insensitive joke comparing her hair to Obama.”
Still, others weren’t as miffed. One fan wrote, “Katy Perry meant she wants Obama back and can’t have him same way ppl want her black hair and won’t get it back ... Christ ppl lol.”
A rep for Perry didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The 32-year-old singer, who once boasted about being “woke af” for supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, has yet to comment on the controversy, but it’s not the first time she’s been accused of racial insensitivity.
In 2015, Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg accused Perry of appropriating black culture in her This Is How We Do video. At the 2013 American Music Awards, Perry was criticised for her Japanese-themed performance of Unconditionally.

Grammy-winning producer Mano called the singer out in 2013 for allegedly referring to him and his pals at a Paris club as “n***as,” and his tweets went viral after Perry’s Obama-joke video hit the web this weekend.
“While she was juke’n my cuz she started calling us her ‘n***as’ and we asked her 2 stop a few times … she couldn’t understand why and we had 2 explain 2 her that it wasn’t endering (sic) and it was really offensive,” he wrote on Sunday.
“No 1 cared that my feelings were hurt as a person. a famous caucasian person thought it was ok 2 say that word 2 me 2 relate with me.”
Mano declined to comment further on the incident.
