Jumanji 1995 trailer

Ever wondered what the kid from the 1995 hit film Jumanji looks like now?

Bradley Pierce was just 12 years old when he played Peter Shepherd in the adventure film which also stars Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt and Kirsten Dunst.

Despite his young age, Pierce said he instantly knew the film was going to be a success.

“I figured out really quickly that it was going to leave a really big mark, partly because Robin Williams and Joe Johnston (director) were involved,” he told iNews.co.uk in 2017.

Pierce said the filming process was gruelling, particularly the scenes where his character was turned into a monkey.

“The monkey make-up was originally going to be 40 days approximately,” he told iNews. “It ended up being almost 70 and that was partially because the application process took nearly three-and-a-half hours – and then another hour to remove.

“I couldn’t eat once the make-up was on because it would destroy the make-up around the mouth, so I was was eating protein shakes through straws.”

To make the process easier on the youngster, the crew set up a TV in the make-up room for him.

“Ironically, we watched the entire Planet Of The Apes series,” Pierce recalled.

What Bradley Pierce thought of Robin Williams

Pierce has nothing but fond memories of Williams who died in 2014.

“Robin would come in and he would sit in the make-up trailer and keep me company,” Pierce said. “He had gone through all of the various stages of prosthetic make-up for Mrs Doubtfire not long beforehand, so being familiar with the challenges he was able to talk me through meditations, ways to calm yourself.

“There are very few actors who would go out of their way in the way he did. I think it was part of Williams’ nature to be generous, kind and caring.”

What Bradley Pierce thought about the Jumanji reboot

When Pierce was asked about a rumoured Jumanji reboot in 2015, he told TMZ it felt “a little bit greedy, maybe a little insensitive” to do the film without Robin Williams.

In 2017 a reboot called Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle was released. It starred Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan.

So what did Pierce think after he saw the film?

“I thought that movie was really entertaining,” he told TooFab. “It had some really wonderful moments and comedy and action that really worked. I enjoyed the performances and it was overall a really fun experience.”

Pierce added: “I do think it’s missing a little bit of the heart that the original had. I think it’s missing a little bit of that morality story that the original had.”
