The latest trailer for Dune: Part Two has finally been released, and it dropped a huge hint as to where the highly anticipated film is headed.

The first part of the Dune movie, set in a dystopian future, quickly became a cult classic, raking in more than US$400 million at the box office and catapulting stars Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya to worldwide fame.

The second half of the story, Dune: Part Two, is due to hit screens later this year in what’s sure to be one of the biggest releases of 2023.

The new film will pick up right where the last one left off.

Dune: Part Two will continue to follow Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet) through the Arrakis desert, this time with Chani (Zendaya) by his side.

Academy Award winner Christopher Walken has joined the already star-studded cast as Emperor Shaddam IV — and his appearance in the trailer was nothing short of spectacular.

In the novels, Shaddam is known for his insidious manipulation of the House Atreides. Since he’s now joining the franchise, Walker’s portrayal will provide fans with the backstory as to what was behind the sudden attack on the Atreides family which was a huge arc of Dune: Part One.

In the three-minute trailer, a hint of Shaddam’s electrifying personality was teased with a brief but withering look, delivered by Walken as his character is informed that Paul is still alive.

Moments later, Walken’s stare is replicated once again in a hair-raising face-to-face confrontation between the pair.

Florence Pugh, the breakout star of thriller Midsommar, also joins the cast as Shaddam’s daughter Princess Irulan Corrino, who is trying to help her father keep his power over the universe. She is joined by fellow newcomer Austin Butler, who is almost unrecognisable as the violent, sadistic Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen.

Returning cast members include Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgard, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin and Charlotte Rampling.

Dune: Part 2, helmed by returning director Denis Villeneuve, premiers in cinema on November 3.

Both Dune movies are based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 novel by the same name. Herbert’s Dune is just the first in a six-book saga that may pave the way to many more films to come.

Fans went wild for the latest trailer, which has already been viewed on YouTube five million times.

“Denis Villeneuve is literally the saviour of the sci-fi genre in cinema. Arrival, Blade Runner, Dune. As a sci-fi lover, I’m so glad an amazing director like him has such a passion for this genre!” one fan raved.

“I can’t get over how amazing this looks. This is cinema at its finest, and a proper adaptation of a classic book. Everyone is giving it their all in here,” commented another.

A third wrote: “I’m definitely going to watch this movie multiple times throughout November. In the best theatres’ surround sound. You really cannot replicate that magical experience anywhere else.”
