Toni Collette reveals the one movie genre she’d never do

The Aussie actress has appeared in everything from dramas to comedies, but one particular role is a no-go.

From drama, comedy and everything in between, Toni Collette has starred in a string of movies. But there’s one genre the Aussie actress says she will never do.

In a new interview with Page Six, the 50-year-old Oscar nominee said she would not consider playing characters that are too revealing – and therefore a porno would be out of the question.

In fact had her role in her new movie, Mafia Mamma, been too risqué, she would have passed on the film, which is about a suburban mum played by Collette who inherits her late grandfather’s mafia empire in Italy. The film also stars Monica Bellucci.

“I don’t mind which genre I work in, but I really can’t commit to doing porno,” Collette laughed. “That’s where the buck stops!”

Filming intimate scenes in general is not the actor’s cup of tea. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Collette said the commonplace practice of having intimacy coordinators on set during sex scenes makes her feel uncomfortable. The intimate scenes themselves were challenging and bringing on a stranger to oversee the action was next-level awkward.

“I think it’s only been a couple of times where they’ve been brought in, and I have very much trusted and felt at ease with the people I was working with,” she said.

“It just felt like those people who were brought in to make me feel more at ease were actually making me feel more anxious. They weren’t helping, so I asked them to leave.”

Elsewhere in the Page Six interview, Collette reflected on her breakout role in the Australian film Muriel’s Wedding, which next year celebrates 30 years since its premiere.

“Time is strange, isn’t it? This weird, elastic notion, like two minutes ago and a hundred years ago,” she told the outlet. “Muriel’s Wedding, I’m forever grateful to that one. I love that character, I love the friends I made and so grateful.”

“It changed my life. It gave me a career I never dreamt of. I grew up in Blacktown in a working-class family,” she added, saying from the New York premiere of Mafia Mamma. “The fact that I’m here, wearing Valentino, hello!”
