Tom Cruise’s former Mummy co-star reveals his bizarre on-set rule

A former co-star of Tom Cruise on The Mummy reboot has revealed the A-list actor had an unusual rule for his films for her to abide by.

A former co-star of Tom Cruise has revealed the A-list actor had an unusual rule for his films, apparently forbidding his fellow actors from running with him on-screen.

Actress Annabelle Wallis, who co-starred with Cruise in 2017’s poorly-received reboot of The Mummy, made the unusual admission in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

“I got to run on-screen with him, but he told me no at first. He said, ‘Nobody runs on-screen [with me],’ and I said, ‘But I’m a really good runner,’” Wallis said. “So, I would time my treadmill so that he’d walk in and see me run. And then he added all these running scenes. So, that was it.”

“It was, like, better than an Oscar. I was so happy! I was so happy that I got to run on-screen with Tom Cruise,” she said.

Wallis isn’t the only former Cruise co-star to open up about his unusual habits lately: Last month, Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 2 co-star Thandie Newton finally revealed the difficult times she had on set with her “very dominant” lead.

Newton, who was never asked back to appear in another Mission Impossible film, told Vulture that she was “so scared of Tom” and recalled a difficult moment they had together on set, when a scene for the movie wasn’t going well.

“He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done,” Newton said.

“There was one time, we were doing this night scene, there were so many extras with pyrotechnics and you name it, and it was a scene with him and me on the balcony,” she said. “And I don’t think it was a very well-written scene. I get angry with him. We’re frustrated with each other. And we’re looking out over Spain. It wasn’t going well.”

And in another recent interview, Cruise’s former co-star on The Outsiders, Rob Lowe, said Cruise was furious when he learned they’d be sharing a hotel room during the making of the 1983 film.

“(It was the) first time I ever stayed at The Plaza Hotel, and we check-in, and Tom finds out that we’re sharing a room and just goes ballistic,” he said.

He also revealed Cruise showed an interest in performing his own stunts at this early stage in his career.

“He ended up being the only one who could do a backflip. It is in the movie The Outsiders for no reason,” Lowe said. “He runs out of the house and does a backflip for no reason. Just to do it.”
