Michelle Andrews: “Motherhood is my Roman Empire”

Five years ago, Michelle Andrews was a pop-culture obsessed writer who decided to trust her instincts and – along with her co-worker Zara McDonald, sit down in front of a microphone and launch a podcast. Now, at the age of 29, the pair sit at the head of Shameless Media – a company that reaches millions of listeners in Australia and around the globe.

In a thoughtful and lively conversation, Michelle explains how – despite the fact that “I don’t even really know what we’re doing sometimes” – she is finding joy and strength in owning her status as a voice of her generation. She also explains why caring about the minutiae of Taylor Swift’s world tour or the Kardashian family’s latest antics is not only a worthwhile endeavour, but also a lucrative one. And she speaks frankly and at length about the concerns that young women like her are grappling with in 2023, from romantic relationships plagued by loneliness to questions around fertility and when they should begin to think about starting a family.
