AS his Australian tour kicks off, Keith Urban gets down to the nitty gritty telling us what it was really like to work with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey.

The swoonworth singer and axeman opened up to Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa today telling them about his time on American Idol with the notoriously difficult divas.

“I think there was a sort of consorted effort to make this incredibly fricticious environment, to make the show something it was never intended to be.

“I really felt for both of them.

“Personally I got along fine with both of them.

“We went to a lot of cities and spent a lot of time together and I got along fine with Nicki.

“Idol is not that kind of show. I think that Jersey Shore’s type of mentally wasn’t a good way to go.”

“I always say the thing that helped me the most was quitting drinking, for me, I’ve got nothing against it, it just wasn’t a good thing in my life.

Meanwhile, Nicole Kidman and Urban will be back in Melbourne next week, celebrating their eighth wedding anniversary.

The movie star was back in Australia yesterday after a brief trip to China, and she will now play the role of supportive wife as Urban tours the country.

Urban plays at Rod Laver Arena on June 25 and 26.

Kidman told Confidential that she was looking forward to touring with her husband and family.

She plans to see his show many times.

“By the time we leave, I’ll be able to do the show," she said.

“I pretty much know every word, to every song.

Reading the Australian women’s magazines it is all good this week between the couple, but over the past few weeks there have been many reports in the same glossies saying the marriage is on

Urban admitted at the Swisse Celebrate Life Ball on Friday night that sometimes all the negative attention was tough.

“Most of the time we ignore it and we get on with our lives, but every now and then it hurts,” Urban said.

“We do the best to move on with our lives and hope that people don’t read that kind ­
