Do the Gogglebox households get paid?
ONE cast member insists she wouldn’t be doing the show if she wasn’t getting paid — another claims all she gets is lollies. What is the truth?
IT’S the question many of us have pondered of those appearing on reality TV shows: What exactly do they get paid?
While the householders on Gogglebox aren’t exposed to the sorts of challenges faced by those on other, more extreme reality TV shows — essentially they sit in their living rooms, drink wine and watch telly — one outspoken cast member says she wouldn’t do it without the promise of some dosh.

Speaking to Fitzy and Wippa on Nova this morning, Gogglebox-er Anastasia — who, along with friend Faye, is arguably one of the most entertaining members of the show — didn’t hold back.
“We spoke to some of the other girls from the show and they said you have never met and you don’t get paid,” Fitzy told her, referring to an earlier interview with Angie and Yvie in which they claimed they were paid only in “lollies and chocolates.”
“Oh no, I’m not watching TV for free. Who says we don’t get paid?” Anastasia asked.
After Fitzy and Wippa played Anastasia audio from their earlier interview, she refuted her castmates’ claims that they’re paid purely in confectionary.
“No, of course we do [get paid]! I’m doing alright.”
Asked if she got paid more than the others, she said she had “no idea — you’ll have to ask management.”
We went straight to the source for clarification on this. A Gogglebox spokesperson said: “Each of the Gogglebox Australia households receive a fee for every time we shoot in their houses. We may very well increase the chocolate and lolly budget.”
During her chat with Fitzy and Wippa, Anastasia also revealed that she first met pal Faye in a Melbourne nightclub, “and I thought she was trying to pick me up.”
“We were there with mutual friends — she came up to me and said ‘Can I have your phone number, I love your dress, you just look gorgeous’ — and I’m thinking, oh, OK ... Me like an idiot gave her my phone number anyway!’”
Gogglebox screens on Wednesdays at 7:30pm on Foxtel’s Lifestyle Channel, then 8:30pm Thursdays on TEN.
