Margot Robbie unveils most dramatic Barbie look yet at film’s London premiere
The Aussie actress unveiled her most showstopping Barbiecore ensemble yet as she stepped out on the pink carpet for the London premiere.
Margot Robbie’s spate of Barbie-esque ensembles has possibly just hit its peak.
The Australian actress, 33, hit the pink carpet in London on Wednesday dressed head-to-toe as the iconic doll, who she plays in the highly-anticipated film.
Robbie glowed in a custom pastel pink Vivienne Westwood gown which featured a rosette at the hip, huge off-the-shoulder ruffled collar, and a flowing train.
She accessorised with clear Barbie-style heels, white opera-length gloves, and a dramatic triple strand pearl choker.
Robbie was joined by her co-stars on the carpet, including Ryan Gosling, who plays Ken in the Greta Gerwig-directed movie.
Robbie’s been generating plenty of buzz by re-creating one iconic Barbie look after the next throughout the film’s publicity tour, with the help of stylist Andrew Mukamal.
Earlier this week, the I, Tonya actress paid homage to vintage Barbie – the 1960s Solo In The Spotlight edition, to be precise – in a dazzling Schiaparelli Haute Couture black strapless gown at the LA premiere.
Robbie was officially cast as the titular character in the Barbie film in 2019 after Warner Bros secured the distribution rights, with Gerwig signing on to write the screenplay alongside husband Noah Baumbach, and later adding director to her credits.
While Robbie was attached to the project early on, with her production company LuckyChap Entertainment teaming up with Heyday Films and Mattel Films, she admitted to Vogue US in May that she and Gerwig had initially tried to recruit another star to play the iconic doll.
“This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project,” the actress told the magazine.
Instead, Robbie first had Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot in mind.
“Gal Gadot is Barbie energy. Because Gal Gadot is so impossibly beautiful, but you don’t hate her for being that beautiful, because she’s so genuinely sincere, and she’s so enthusiastically kind that it’s almost dorky,” Robbie said. “It’s like right before being a dork.”
However, once it became clear Gadot was unavailable, the Aussie star stepped in.
Barbie will be released in Australian theatres on July 20.
