Spat with Kim over $10m home reno ‘led to Kanye’s breakdown’
A FIGHT between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian over their $10 million home renovations was behind the rapper’s ‘psychotic break’, according to reports.
KIM Kardashian and Kanye West’s never-ending house renovations have been cited as another reason why the rapper suffered a “psychotic break”.
A new report from TMZ claims that the pair ended up spending more than $10 million doing up the sprawling Hidden Hills, California estate — but have never spent a night there since they bought it two years ago.
The “remodel process has been frustrating and a source of tension for both of them”, according to the site.
Kim apparently complained back in April she had been lumbered with footing the bill for the never-ending stream of renovations.
TMZ reports: “During the final taping of [sister Khloe Kardashian’s] talk show in April, Kim was grousing that they had sunk $8 million ($A10.8 million) into their Hidden Hills remodel and it was all her money.”
The couple ended up spending $A13.4 million on making the place perfect — or at least trying to.
TMZ continued: “Our sources say the main reason they sunk so much into the $20 million ($A26.9 million) estate … Kanye couldn’t make his mind up. He would order a change and when it was completed he’d take a look and tell contractors to rip it out and do it another way.”
It’s thought the tension about the house was compounded by the fact the couple have been living with their two children at “momager” Kris Jenner’s house.
TMZ previously reported that they wanted their marital home to have “two-storey playroom, gigantic gym, basketball court, hair salon, full spa with facial and massage room, and a music studio for Kanye”. The house also boasted a full-size movie theatre with a Dolby sound system.
Back in September Kardashian and West were said to be “months away from moving in”, although it’s not clear what stage the house is at now.
West is currently being treated for a “temporary psychosis due to sleep deprivation and dehydration”.
Discussing his progress, an American source told the publication: “[Kanye] is starting to feel more like himself, and that he understands the importance of ‘resting and getting help.’
“They are taking it day by day. He understands that getting help at the hospital was necessary.”
West’s medical emergency may save him millions of dollars, it has also been reported.
