Speaking to news.com.au about her stint as an actress in LA, the beloved Aussie star said working with Sandler was a highlight by miles.

“He’s so down to earth and LA is a crazy place sometimes, so he was definitely my favourite to work with,” she said of the Hollywood heavyweight worth an estimated $623 million.

Monk worked alongside Sandler in 2006 film Click, playing a receptionist for Sandler’s sleazy boss, played by David Hasselhoff.

“If you watch his movies, he always re-uses the same people because he forms such good relationships on set. He’s just got it right there,” she said.

She went on to explain that during their time working together, he even showed an interest in her music career.

“He used to listen to my music on set,” she revealed.

“I was writing and singing a lot of my own stuff which I told him, and because he loves music he asked if he could have a listen.

“He used to sit on set between takes and put it on, which I thought was really sweet,” she said.

Monk, who would have been 26 at the time of filming, released solo album Calendar Girl in 2003, and continued to write music while living in LA.

Speaking ahead of filming for Love Island Australia season two, Monk said her time in LA was one of the most difficult periods of her life.

She had relocated to tinsel town in 2005, three years after girl group Bardot disbanded, and five years after she first appeared on our screens in 2000 reality show Popstars.

“I didn’t like my 20s at all,” she said.

“I didn’t even know who I was. Being a celebrity, I was in LA, I was trying to figure things out. I just didn’t enjoy it very much.”

Asked whether she would ever consider going back to singing, she said with a laugh: “No one’s begging for me to sing again that’s for sure, but I do love it.”

As for acting — it would take the “right role” to get Monk back on the big screen.

“It would have to be a comedy role. If you do drama or horror you put your head in that space and it’s a bit depressing for me. I’d rather the fun,” she said.

While living in LA, Monk appeared in horror film The Hills Run Red as well as a handful of comedies including Date Movie and Hard Breakers. She also starred in an episode of Entourage, which she said was “just so LA.”

“That show is exactly what it’s like behind the scenes in Hollywood,” she said.

Love Island Australia airs tonight at 8.40pm on Channel 9
