Sophie Monk reveals the massive Hollywood movie role she turned down

SHE could’ve starred in an iconic film that made half a billion dollars at the box office — you won’t believe the role Sophie Monk chose instead.

Sophie Monk admits she once hooked up with Shane Warne

SHE’S been a Bachelorette and a Bardot hitmaker — and for a few years there, Sophie Monk even had the makings of a promising Hollywood acting career.

The Love Island host, 38, had a reasonably successful US stint in the mid-noughties, with supporting roles in big screen comedies like Click and Date Movie.

But there was one botched career move Monk made while in Hollywood that she still laments as a “missed opportunity”: She passed on appearing in a movie that went on to make almost half a billion dollars in favour of a straight-to-DVD horror film.

Sophie Monk’s had some career hits — and a couple of big misses.

Speaking with Nova’s Fitzy & Wippa this morning, Monk opened up about “this movie I passed up The Hangover for, which was not genius at all, that move. No-one ever saw it. I was meant to be Heather Graham in The Hangover [Graham had a supporting role as stripper Jade in the film], but I decided to do this weird movie where I end up sleeping with my father, having a baby with him … it just got weird. It was a horror film. I was like, ‘I smell an Oscar, I smell an Oscar’, and guess what? I got nothing. I didn’t even get residuals!”

The movie she’s talking about is 2009’s little-seen The Hills Run Red, a slasher film in which she plays a stripper named Alexa whose serial killer son, Babyface, was the product of incest with her father. Soph, we’re with you on this one: This role had Oscar buzz written all over it and we can only assume Meryl Streep was busy.

That coulda been Sophie Monk.

She may not have bagged an Oscar, but Monk did at least score one gong from a less prestigious award show:

“[I got] ‘Best Naked Chick in a DVD’. Not even in a film, because it went straight to DVD. I was so proud! It’s still with me today — it’s the only award I’ll ever need.”

We googled this and all we found were a bunch of NSFW links to her raunchy scenes in the The Hills Run Red, so we’ll have to take Monk’s word about that award.

Thankfully, Monk kept her sense of humour about passing on the opportunity to star in a movie that went on to become a $1.4 billion-dollar three-film franchise as she explained why she turned it down.

“I went: This is ridiculous, this script. As if Mike Tyson would come out with this tattoo, and there’s a baby in a closet? This doesn’t even make sense. Makes MUCH more sense to have sex with my dad in a film,” she laughed.
