Shocking new details emerge about Joan Rivers’ death

THE doctors who performed Rivers’ ill-fated throat procedure made a litany of shocking errors, according to a damning new report.

Report claims that Joan Rivers' doctor took a selfie before operating on her

THE Manhattan doctors who performed the fated throat procedure on comedian Joan Rivers never weighed her to determine how much anaesthetic she should receive — and the clinic’s computer indicated that she got a huge dose, according to a blistering federal report released Monday.

The 81-year-old legend was given a total of 300 milligrams of Propofol at 9:21am. August 28, according to computer records detailed in the report by the Department of Health and Human Services.

But the clinic’s anaesthesiologist claims that she only administered 120 milligrams, the report said.

“She explained she double clicked on Propofol 100 milligram and that is the reason for the double dose recording in the Medication Administration Record,” the report stated.

Either way, Rivers was never weighed before going under for the procedure, a “very critical” step prior to administering the proper dose of anaesthesia, the report said.

Yorkville Endoscopy — the Upper West Side clinic where Rivers was treated for a throat ailment before dying days later — is under fire for violating various state health laws involving surgical services, medical staff and patient rights in regard to Rivers.

The famed Fashion Police host was scheduled to have a esophagogastroduodenoscopy, which uses a thin scope to look at the area between the throat and the upper intestines. She wound up receiving two nasolaryngoscopies.

Those procedures were performed by an unauthorised surgeon who specialises in ear, nose and throat conditions, according to the report.

During one of the procedures, there was a photo taken of one of the doctors while Rivers was out cold.

The report cited a worker who claimed that the doctor wanted the photo because she said Rivers “would like to see this in the recovery room.”

The law firm that Rivers’ daughter, Melissa, hired last month said in a statement, “Our client, Melissa Rivers, is terribly disappointed to learn of the multiple failings on the part of medical personnel and the clinic as evidenced by the … report.

“As any of us would be, Ms. Rivers is outraged by the misconduct and mismanagement now shown to have occurred before, during and after the procedure.

“Moving forward, Ms. Rivers will direct her efforts towards ensuring that what happened to her mother will not occur again with any other patient,” said the statement from Gair, Gair, Conason, Steigman, Mackauf, Bloom & Rubinowitz.
