Special plans for Meghan Markle’s wedding dress
AVID Meghan Markle fans might soon be able to see the Duchess of Sussex’s famous Givenchy wedding gown up close and personal.
ROYAL fans might soon be able to see Meghan Markle’s wedding dress in real life, with the gorgeous white silk gown reportedly set to be exhibited at Windsor Castle later this year. Sources close to the British royal family ignited rumours that the iconic Givenchy frock would soon be on display to the public, and The Royal Collection Trust confirmed to the Daily Express that official announcements would be made in due course.
It’s hardly surprising that the Duchess of Sussex’s famous frock might soon become the centrepiece of a public exhibition. Just a few months after Prince William and Kate Middleton tied the knot in 2011, the Duchess of Cambridge’s custom Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown was displayed for the summer exhibition at Buckingham Palace. Middleton’s shoes, earrings, tiara, as well as replicas of her flower bouquet and wedding cake were also on display.
Meghan’s simple and elegant gown was paired with a stunning 5m tulle veil with organza embroidery. Despite the international hype, the former Suits star and Givenchy artistic director Clare Waight Keller managed to keep the dress under wraps until her wedding to Prince Harry on May 19.
“I aimed for a very modern and fresh design, just like I find Meghan to be, so I really wanted to represent her,” Keller told WWD after the big reveal. “I wanted her to feel absolutely incredible in the dress and, also, I wanted her to feel like it was absolutely right for the occasion.”
Kensington Palace said Meghan chose the British designer for her “timeless and elegant aesthetic, impeccable tailoring and relaxed demeanour.”
According to People, more than 350,000 spectators flocked to see Kate’s wedding dress on display in the first six weeks. No doubt Meghan’s gown will attract just as impressive crowds to Windsor Castle.
