Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly raising their daughter with the “expectation she will get a job” rather than being a full-time royal.

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly raising Princess Charlotte with the “expectation she will get a job”.

Unlike her elder brother Prince George, nine, the Prince and Princess of Wales apparently have plans for their seven-year-old daughter not to be a “full-time royal”.

The Daily Mail’s diary editor Richard Eden claimed a path has been carved for the young Princess that will be in line with King Charles III’s plans to slim down the monarchy.

“From what I hear, the Prince and Princess of Wales want Charlotte, aged seven, to grow up with the expectation that she will get a job and not be a full-time royal,” he wrote in his Palace Confidential newsletter.

The columnist explained that William also shares his fathers’ views on a slimmed down monarchy.

While he understands the King’s plans, Mr Richard said he was opposed to the idea.

“Personally, I would prefer to see a larger Royal Family,” he said.

The journalist pointed out that a bigger monarchy would allow them to carry out “more official engagements” and meet “more members of the public.”

“If Charlotte is to get a job and not be an active member of ‘The Firm’, she needs to be ready to step into the breach, if needed,” he said.

William, 40, and Kate, 41 also have a third child, Prince Louis, four.

Last month, Prince Harry expressed his concerns that one of his brother’s children will “end up” like him, as a “spare” heir.

In an interview with The Telegraph, the Duke of Sussex spoke about his fears for his niece and nephews.

“And though William and I have talked about it once or twice, and he has made it very clear to me that his kids are not my responsibility,” the 38-year-old royal said.

“I still feel a responsibility knowing that out of those three children, at least one will end up like me, the spare. And that hurts, that worries me.”

However, royal expert Katie Nicholl said the Waleses have Charlotte’s future in the Royal family “all worked out”.

“George, Charlotte and Louis are enjoying a childhood Harry and William didn’t get to enjoy,” Ms Nicholl said on the Dynasty podcast last month.

“And I think that is why William and Kate are channelling everything they can into raising their children with an understanding of who they are as royals but as ordinary children too.

“No one wants the next generation to suffer as Harry has suffered … it’s not a pretty picture.”

Currently, the Prince of Wales’ firstborn George is second in line to the throne behind his father, while younger siblings Charlotte and Louis are third and fourth.

In his book Spare, Harry claimed that he knew he was there to give William an organ donation if needed to maintain the line of succession to the throne.

“I was the shadow, the support, the Plan B. I was brought into the world in case something happened to Willy,” he wrote.

The Duke, who is two years younger than his brother, explained how the idea of ‘heir’ and ‘spare’ had been reinforced throughout his entire life.
