Harry reveals what really caused infamous ‘dress’ fight between Kate and Meghan

Rumours have swirled for years around the showdown between Kate and Meghan before the royal wedding. Now, Harry’s finally revealed exactly what happened.

In his explosive new memoir, Spare, Prince Harry reveals new details on Meghan Markle’s infamous fight with Kate Middleton over the bridesmaid dresses for the Sussexes’ 2018 wedding.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, wrote that the now-Princess of Wales texted his wife the week of their nuptials about a “problem” with daughter Princess Charlotte’s outfit, New York Post reports.

“The French haute couture dresses had been hand-sewn based solely on [the bridesmaids’] measurements, so it was not surprising that they needed alterations,” Harry wrote of the pint-sized designs, which were custom-made by Givenchy’s then-creative director Clare Waight Keller, who also created Meghan’s wedding dress.

The Duchess of Sussex, 41, replied to Kate and told her to bring Charlotte, now 7, to the palace, where a tailor was waiting to perform alterations for all six of the bridesmaids. But according to Harry, this was “not sufficient” for Kate, who arranged a time for the two to talk.

Charlotte’s dress was “too big, long and baggy,” Kate allegedly told Meghan, adding that the youngster “burst into tears when she tried it on”.

When Meghan reiterated that Kate should bring Charlotte to the tailor on standby for tweaks, Harry wrote, the Kate told her that all the bridesmaid dresses needed to be completely remade – with four days to go until the wedding.

According to the Duke, Kate also said her own wedding dress designer, Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, agreed with her assessment.

While the Princess of Wales eventually agreed to visit the tailor with Charlotte, Harry wrote, he later found Meghan in tears “on the floor” following the altercation. The following day, he continued, Kate apologised and brought over flowers and a card.

Harry’s summary of the ordeal expands on what Meghan shared during the Sussexes’ bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in 2021: While it was widely reported that Meghan had made Kate cry in the lead-up to their wedding, she revealed at the time, “the reverse happened”.

“I don’t think it’s fair to her to get into the details because she apologised, and I’ve forgiven her,” the Duchess of Sussex told Winfrey.
