Prince Harry has revealed he and Meghan Markle have no intention of leaving the US in the near future.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex relocated to Montecito, California in 2020, months after announcing they would step down as working members of the royal family and leave the UK.

During an interview at The New York Times’ annual DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday local time, Prince Harry said the couple plan to remain in America long-term with their two young children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

“I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here,” the 40-year-old said.

“It’s a part of my life that I never thought I was going to live and it feels as though it’s the life that my mum wanted for me.”

Citing security concerns, Prince Harry noted there are activities he can do with his children that he “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the UK”.

He went on to (once again) discuss the impact that the reduction of security afforded to his family when they moved across the pond had on himself and Meghan.

“I should’ve never had security removed in the first place,” Prince Harry, who has a pending case against the government that could restore the taxpayer-funded security, said.

“But the disclosure process has been troubling and enlightening and I just have to now sit and wait until April.”

Despite making trips back to the UK in recent years, palace sources have also previously stressed the Duke and Duchess do not want to permanently return.

Prince Harry said his “main goal” is to be “the best dad and best husband” he can be.

Elsewhere in the interview, Prince Harry discussed his ongoing “battles” with the media in his home country.

“I’ve had a lived experienced since I was a kid, I’ve seen stories written about myself that aren’t exactly based on reality,” he said.

“I’ve seen stories about members of my family, friends, strangers, all sorts of people.

“And I think when you grow up within that environment, you do find yourself questioning the validity of the information but also what other people are thinking of that as well, and how dangerous it can be over the course of time.”
