The 77-year-old royal has revealed the full extent of her recent health issues, which has seen her cancel a series of engagements.

Queen Camilla to miss start of Qatari state visit due to lingering side effects of chest infection

Queen Camilla has shared details of her concerning health diagnosis to guests during a state visit in London.

The 77-year-old, who is suffering from post-viral fatigue and had to miss the outdoor elements of the Qatari royal visit, revealed that her recent chest infection was actually a form of pneumonia.

It’s understood she no longer has it, and her condition was viral, not bacterial.

King Charles, along with the Prince and Princess of Wales, took part in the ceremonial welcome on the Horse Guards Parade in London on Tuesday, where the temperature was hovering around 7 degrees celsius.

While Camilla was absent for the outdoor element, she was seen arriving by car at Buckingham Palace, where she joined her husband and their guests, the Emir of Qatar and his wife.

The Queen contracted the infection after her and the King’s royal tour of Australia and Samoa in October, and has since pulled out of a series of high-profile engagements, including Remembrance Day commemorations and the Royal Variety Performance.

Doctors have reportedly been urging her to take more time to recover.

There was some concern late last month after the Queen abruptly cancelled her planned appearance at the Royal Variety Performance in London, having returned to work (albeit in a reduced capacity) and appearing to be on the mend.

“Following a recent chest infection, the Queen continues to experience some lingering post-viral symptoms, as a result of which doctors have advised that, after a busy week of engagements, Her Majesty should prioritise sufficient rest,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said.

Just weeks earlier, she had suddenly pulled out of a series of engagements, with officials revealing she had contracted a chest infection.

Camilla had been due to attend the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey, but was replaced by the Duchess of Gloucester.

She also had to cancel her appearance at the Palace’s reception for Olympic and Paralympic athletes, hosted by her husband, King Charles, which was scheduled for the same day.

She later pulled out of Remembrance events and has been seen coughing during recent engagements.

“Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest,” the initial statement from the Palace said.

“With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.

“She apologises to all those who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result.”

It comes amid a challenging year for the royals’ health, with both the monarch and his daughter-in-law, the Princess of Wales, diagnosed with unspecified forms of cancer.
