Prince George has joined his father Prince William for a surprise father-son outing to the football.

The Prince of Wales, 41, and his eldest child George, 10, were photographed in the crowd at the FA Cup final at London’s Wembley Stadium on Saturday, as William recently returned to duties after taking time off to support his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales, who has cancer.

The pair, dressed smart in navy suits and matching striped ties, watched on as Manchester City versed Manchester United, the latter going on to win 2-1.

George is firmly following in his dad’s footsteps when it comes to being a footy fan.

The second-in-line to the British throne was last seen in April cheering on their favourite team Aston Villa in Birmingham, the appearance falling days after Catherine announced her cancer diagnosis in a video.

William, who is president of the Football Association, made the unexpected appearance with his son after he was forced to pull the pin on a several engagements following the announcement of a general election in the UK, which Prime Minister Rishi Sunak scheduled for July 4.

King Charles III also abruptly cancelled a series of royal engagements last week.

Buckingham Palace said in a statement royals would likely continue to postpone scheduled outings “which may appear to divert attention or distract from the election campaign.”

Meanwhile, Catherine, 42, hasn’t attended a royal engagement since Christmas Day. She had abdominal surgery in January, with subsequent tests finding she had cancer.

In her video, posted March 22, the Princess said she kept the news private for some time so she could support her three children, including Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6.

“As you can imagine, this has taken time,” Catherine said in the video.

She continued, “It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be OK.”

A typically busy summer season is looming for the royals.

Trooping the Colour, Royal Ascot and Garter Day are among the many events scheduled in the coming weeks, all of which members of the royal family are expected to attend.
