It’s speculated a ‘hiccup’ was behind the Prince and Princess of Wales’ late arrival at the coronation after they arrived behind the man of the hour.
Mystery surrounds Prince William and wife Kate Middleton’s late arrival to the coronation, with a royal expert adamant a “hiccup” must have unfolded behind the scenes.
The Prince and Princess of Wales were scheduled to arrive at London’s Westminster Abbey before King Charles and Queen Camilla, but their carriage was nowhere to be seen as they missed their allotted arrival time.
“This is very curious. The Wales’ are not here yet because of course the King and Queen Consort were supposed to be the last [to arrive] so you have to wonder what hiccup there was perhaps at Buckingham Palace this morning,” British royal commentator Victoria Arbiter told Channel 7 host David Koch, who is currently in London.
Arbiter wondered if the late arrival had something to do with the couples’ three children: Prince George, 9, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5.
“Every parent of little kids is thinking it could be one of a multitude of things,” Koch replied, to which Arbiter joked: “Louis is five, let’s put it that way.”
Koch’s colleague Michael Usher – who is also in London – said he saw the Wales’ royal car “screaming by” with the family-of-five “clearly running late”.
“So whatever’s happened with the Wales, with William, Kate and the kids, it’s a slight delay but it’s completely understandable and reasonable when you’re trying to hustle a couple of kids to get ready,” Usher said.
But their late arrival was worth the wait with Kate looking absolutely beautiful as she stepped out of the car at Westminster Abbey. The Princess of Wales stunned onlookers in an Alexander McQueen ivory silk dress complete with royal blue cape and headpiece with silver bullion.
She also wore pearl and diamond earrings belonging to her late mother-in-law, Diana, Princess of Wales.
