Prince William and Kate arrive at King Charles III’s coronation
Kate looked stunning as she arrived at Westminster Abbey with Prince William for the coronation of King Charles III.
William and Kate, the Prince and Princess of Wales, arrived at Westminster Abbey in London for the coronation of King Charles III in lavish outfits.
Royals and dignitaries from around the world travelled for the historic event.
Prince William, who is first in line to the British throne, played an important role in the coronation ceremony and kneeled before the King to pay homage.
He kneeled, placed his hands in his father’s hands and said the words, “I, William, Prince of Wales, pledge my loyalty to you and faith and truth I will bear unto you, as your liege man of life and limb. So help me God.”
This act of swearing his loyalty to the King is officially called ‘The Homage of Royal Blood’.
In past coronations Dukes would also participate and pay homage to the new monarch but Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, and Prince Andrew, Duke of York, will not be.
There was speculation that the Prince and Princess of Wales were late as King Charles and Queen Camilla were seen arriving before the Wales’ on the broadcast.
However, they appeared as the ceremony began.
The Princess of Wales is wearing an Alexander McQueen dress in ivory silk crepe with silver bullion and thread work embroidery featuring rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock motifs.
She is also wearing pearl and diamond earrings belonging to Diana, Princess of Wales and the George VI Festoon Necklace.
The necklace was made in 1950 at the request of King George VI for his daughter Princess Elizabeth.
She is wearing a Jess Collett x Alexander McQueen headpiece with silver bullion, crystal and silver thread work three-dimensional leaf embroidery.
Harry cut a lonely figure as he arrived at the coronation of his father this evening.
His wife, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, declined an invitation to attend the coronation, opting instead to stay at their home in California with their children: Princess Lilibet, one, and Prince Archie, who coincidentally is celebrating his fourth birthday today.
The day before the coronation, Prince William and Kate Middleton delighted royal fans camped out outside of Buckingham Palace with a surprise visit.
They joined King Charles for the impromptu walkabout down The Mall.
The trio chatted with people lining the barricades and thanked them for their support.
Some eager royalists had been camped out since last weekend.
