Finding Freedom: Meghan Markle ‘delighted’ Harry by going to the toilet in the woods while camping

Surprisingly private details of Harry and Meghan’s first overseas holiday – including the toilet habit that “delighted” Harry – have been revealed.

Finding Freedom: Juicy new book takes us inside the Meghan and Harry royal rift

Prince Harry was “delightfully surprised” with Meghan after she went to the bathroom in the woods on their first trip overseas, according to new biography Finding Freedom.

Six weeks after their first date in July 2016, Harry whisked his new love to Botswana for a secret luxury camping getaway.

The new book, released today, says: “Harry was delightfully surprised by Meghan’s down-to-earth attitude.

“While camping she cleaned her face with baby wipes and happily wandered into the woodlands if she needed a bathroom break.”

The new insight comes from Meghan and Harry’s unofficial biography, co-written by Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand.

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 35, have insisted they had nothing to do with the book, from which The Times published extracts two weeks ago.

Scobie, who has close ties to Meghan, also said he had not spoken to them directly. However, the book contains intimate information on the early stages of their romance.

Their glamping trip was at Meno A Kwena, in a £1500-a-night ($A2740) tent with a private terrace and ensuite bathroom.

According to the book, Harry had bacon and eggs for breakfast while Meghan went for fruit and yoghurt.

From the start, Meghan is said to have encouraged Harry to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Her morning ritual was hot water with lemon followed by steel cut oats with bananas and agave syrup.

Pizza-loving Harry had already taken an interest in healthy living, the book says, and Meghan introduced him to yoga and meditation.

MEGHAN ‘SPELLBOUND’

In Botswana, she packed sunscreen for the fair-skinned royal, who was impressed at her bringing just one backpack for the entire trip.

Meghan came back “just completely spellbound’’, according to a friend. She is said to have told her friend: “I’ve never felt that safe … close to someone in such a short amount of time.”

It came just weeks after Meghan’s friends apparently orchestrated a meeting between the pair.

Their first date was at a luxury suite at Soho’s Dean Street Townhouse, with other pals present.

As previously reported, Harry later told a friend she was “the most beautiful woman I’ve seen in my life”.

The couple were so smitten they met again the next night at the same venue – this time alone.

They flirted throughout but the evening ended chastely with Harry going home alone, the book says. It claims: “Still their chemistry had been electric throughout the meal as they both flirted. A touch of an arm here, direct eye contact there.’’

The couple, outspoken on environmental issues, have come under fire for a string of private jet flights.

The book makes it clear they had a jetsetting lifestyle long before their relationship was made public – thanks to their wealthy friends.

Meghan made three secret trips to London to see Harry in 2016. Her friend, Soho House director Markus Anderson, also put them up at a cottage on his club’s 100-acre (40ha) Soho Farmhouse estate in Oxfordshire.

He also arranged for them to have a secret weekend, complete with a butler, at Babington House, a 18th-century manor house in Somerset, southwest England.

The couple were also loaned a luxury West Hollywood home by Harry’s friend Arthur Landon so he could meet Meghan’s mum, Doria, in secret.

PREPARED FOR GRILLING

Harry also made secret visits to Meghan in Toronto where she lived in a modest three-bed townhouse, with furnishings from Ikea.

Once their love was revealed in October 2016, Meghan said it was nerve-racking to travel. So her best friend Jessica Mulroney arranged for a private jet. In November 2016, Meghan met Prince William for the first time, where a friend said she “prepared herself for a grilling”.

William put her at ease by saying he was looking forward to meeting the girl who put “that silly grin on my brother’s face”. However, Meghan was reportedly disappointed Kate did not join them.

Meghan and Harry also enjoyed a trip to Jamaica for the wedding of Harry’s friend Tom “Skippy” Inskip.

According to the book, Harry became enraged after the couple were pictured in a steamy embrace and frolicking in the water.

He was apparently “angry and shouting” in their villa bedroom and was in a sour mood for days.

The book also reveals how the couple enjoyed a week-long secret honeymoon in 2018, flying there on a friend’s private jet.

A few weeks later George Clooney arranged for them to fly to Italy’s Lake Como on his private jet. They stayed at the actor and wife Amal’s 25-room mansion.
