Weird reality TV link to Karl and Jasmine’s wedding

It’s set to be the biggest Australian celebrity wedding in decades, but Karl Stefanovic is following in the unlikely footsteps of two US reality stars.

Karl Stefanovic’s wedding to Jasmine Yarbrough next month will undoubtably be the biggest Australian celebrity wedding in decades.

But the Today star is following in some unlikely footsteps, with the Mexican resort where he is set to say “I do” previously playing host to two infamous US reality TV stars’ nuptials.

In a bizarre link, Stefanovic and Yarbrough will become man and wife in the same chapel at the One&Only Palmilla Resort that US reality TV villains Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt got married at in 2008.

The couple eloped at the resort after becoming engaged against the advice of family and friends, with Heidi telling Perez Hilton afterwards she “couldn’t stop crying” during their wedding vows.

The couple, who were affectionately known as ‘Speidi’ during the 2000s, starred on MTV reality TV show The Hills where Heidi had a very public falling out with best friend Lauren Conrad.

Other than that the couple are famous for faking divorce proceedings for publicity and comparing their reality TV show’s axing in 2010 to 9/11.

But back to Stefanovic and Yarbrough. The high profile couple will tie the knot at the five star Mexican resort after holding a nonlegal commitment ceremony in Sydney earlier this year.

Stefanovic told the Sunday Mail the wedding will include “Queensland elements” given both he and Yarbrough hail from the Sunshine State.

“There’s going to be a lot of love in the room and I think it will be a really nice opportunity to say ‘thanks and we’re getting on with it’,’ he said.

Celebrities tipped to attend their Mexican wedding on December 8 include James Packer, Richard Wilkins, Sylvia Jeffreys, Peter Stefanovic and Shane Warne.

Stefanovic’s former Today colleague Lisa Wilkinson previously confirmed she had not been invited.

Photos of the couple’s nuptials could fetch upwards of $150,000, with The Daily Telegraph reporting last week that both Australian and international paparazzi are planning to descend on the resort town.
