Sean Penn’s girlfriend ‘heartbroken’ over kissing photos

MANY people were surprised to see pictures of Sean Penn kissing Sydney-born actress Leila George in Hawaii on Thursday — not least his girlfriend.

A source tells The New York Post that Penn, 56, had been quietly dating a woman for several months, and she believed that she and the star were in an exclusive relationship — until she saw the steamy shots of Penn and 24-year-old George smooching in the Pacific.

A pal of the scorned lover — who is said to be “heartbroken” by the development and doesn’t want to be named — was in the midst of planning a visit to Ireland to see the actor on the set of his next movie, The Professor and the Madman.

Throughout their relationship, “it was calls, flowers, dinners, having her over to his house,” said our source.

“She was leery at first,” said the pal, but eventually became convinced that “maybe he’s not this jerky-actor type.”

The source says the fling with George proved her pal wrong.

George, 32 years Penn’s junior, is the daughter of Law and Order actor Vincent D’Onofrio and Italian Australian actress Greta Scacchi.

Mother and daughter have performed alongside each other onstage, appearing together in a 2014 Perth production of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull.
