Lily James talks ‘making mistakes’ in resurfaced video amid Dominic West affair saga

Actress Lily James admitted she makes mistakes “all the time”, amid her involvement in a cheating scandal with married actor Dominic West.

Lily James' awkwardly timed interview

Lily James has appeared in an awkwardly timed video interview, where she conceded she made mistakes “all the time”.

The British actress, 31, is embroiled in a cheating scandal with her married co-star Dominic West, 50.

The pair were seen kissing and riding around on a scooter during a romantic jaunt in Rome at the weekend, while on a break from filming the BBC miniseries The Pursuit of Love.

One day after the scandalous photos emerged, West was back by his wife Catherine FitzGerald’s side as the couple told media they were “very much together” after 10 years of marriage.

And in a resurfaced video interview, which was shot by Harper’s Bazaar last month, James said she makes “mistakes all the time” which can be “misguided”.

“I think I make mistakes all the time, you know that’s what life’s about and I would never want to run away from a situation or be too scared to act,” she said.

“I think that it’s better to throw yourself in and make mistakes with an open heart.

“If your instincts are right even if they’re misguided, you can recover from your mistakes and learn from them.”

Promoting her upcoming Netflix film Rebecca, which she plays Mrs de Winter, James applauded the character of Rebecca for being a rebellious woman.

“The character Rebecca, went against all norms as a woman. (She) disobeyed her husband, had affairs (and) was basically just brilliant, and that was only in the 1930s.

“People are afraid of women, when they’re unleashed women are warriors and that’s intimidating.”

She added of her own rebellious streak: “I feel I’ve rebelled in that way. I was always a rebellious teenager and I think it’s important to rebel.”

James conducted the Zoom interview during filming of The Pursuit of Love with West.

She is yet to comment on the photos of her getting cosy with West.

Meanwhile West, who shot to fame on crime series The Wire in 2002, held his hands in his pockets as he kissed his wife, 49, in front of a media pack in truly bizarre scenes earlier in the week, and did not directly address his romantic moment with the Cinderella actress.

But he has shared his thoughts on extramarital affairs in the past. In a 2016 interview with the Evening Standard newspaper that has now resurfaced, the actor said women should “turn a blind eye” to brief affairs.

Discussing his TV series The Affair – which he starred in from 2014 to 2019 – West said:

“I think women should be more indulgent of affairs. I really do. It’s daft to kick someone out over a fling. Isn’t it?

“Everyone should turn a blind eye to men’s behaviour between the ages of 40 and 50. Let it all blow over.”
