Inside Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness’ $290m divorce
The Aussie golden couple are reportedly preparing their divorce papers following their separation, with the pair working to divide their lucrative assets.
Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are yet to file for divorce following their separation announcement last week.
But a new report suggests the paperwork is currently being prepared in the wake of their shock split, with the long-time couple said to be “amicably” figuring out how they’ll divvy up their lucrative assets.
The Australian actor, 54, and his wife, 67, are rumoured to be worth around $290 million – with the couple owning homes in Australia and the US – which they’re reportedly planning to split equally.
“Their lives were so interwoven, so it’s an extremely tricky and gut-wrenching process dividing everything up and figuring out who gets what in terms of assets and finances,” a source told US Weekly.
“The [divorce] filing will be formalised in due course, but before that happens, their aim is to come to an agreement. They’re determined to [do this] as amicably as possible.”
Forbes estimated Jackman made $33 million [adjusted for inflation] in 2014 alone, thanks to the global box office successes of 2013’s The Wolverine and the following year’s X-Men: Days of Future Past.
In 2019, Men’s Health estimated Jackman’s net worth was sitting at around $257 million [adjusted for inflation], with the bulk of his income stemming from his portrayal of Wolverine in the blockbuster Marvel Comics franchise, which he retired in 2017’s Logan (that was, until he announced his surprise return in the upcoming third Deadpool film.)
Amid his many Broadway and film accomplishments, including 2017’s critically acclaimed movie The Greatest Showman, Jackman and Furness have accumulated quite the property empire.
They bought a North Bondi penthouse for $5.925m in 2015, which is estimated to have doubled in value since.
In August last year, the couple dropped $30m on a New York penthouse, which came after they listed their triplex in Manhattan’s West Village for $56m, having lived in the property for a decade. The latter is still on the market, according to The Post.
They also own a sprawling getaway home in East Hamptons, which they purchased in 2015 for $5.440m.
Earlier this year, they put the property up for rent for an eye-watering $259,000 per month.
On Saturday, Jackman and Furness announced their shock split after 27 years of marriage. The couple share two adult children.
In a joint statement given to People, the former couple released a loving declaration they reiterated would be their “sole statement” on the matter.
“We have been blessed to share almost three decades together as husband and wife in a wonderful, loving marriage,” the pair said.
“Our journey now is shifting and we have decided to separate to pursue our individual growth.
“Our family has been and always will be our highest priority.
“We undertake this next chapter with gratitude, love, and kindness.
“We greatly appreciate your understanding in respecting our privacy as our family navigates this transition in all of our lives.”
