Abbie Chatfield and Konrad Bien-Stephens: ‘We can cheat on each other’
Abbie Chatfield and Konrad Bien-Stephens have appeared smitten since they began dating last year, but they’ve just made a wild revelation about their romance.
Abbie Chatfield has revealed she’s in an “open relationship” with her boyfriend, Konrad Bien-Stephens.
The loved-up pair, who met late last year while Konrad was a contestant on Brooke Blurton’s The Bachelorette, made the bombshell revelation on Abbie’s popular It’s A Lot podcast.
Featuring on the latest episode together, Abbie, 26, and Konrad, 31, said they had recently become a non-exclusive couple.
“First of all, we’re in love. Mummy and daddy aren’t breaking up … We’re just having a different structure to our relationship. So we’re open. We’re in an open relationship, which we love,” Abbie said.
Konrad added: “I’ve never been in an open relationship before. But it’s something I want to explore and I want to navigate and learn. Someone we met on the weekend gave us some good tips. Go see a sex therapist, talk about what your boundaries are … Because it’s not like you can just go sleep with anyone.”

Abbie said “there are rules” to their situation, but that “we can still cheat on each other”.
“We can. We can still cheat,” Konrad said. “So that’s the stuff I want to learn because I feel like there’s so much more to a relationship than just sex.”
They said some of their “rules” included not sleeping with people they know or ex partners.
Abbie revealed she was yet to sleep with anyone else as part of their new situation, while Konrad said he had.
“I don’t care about someone’s genitals going near someone else’s genitals, I care about the lying, I care about getting an STI,” Abbie added. “I don’t care. In fact, hate to break it to you, it’s my kink.”
Konrad said when he did sleep with someone else, he called Abbie the next day. “She was like, ‘Yeah hot, tell me all about it’.”
The couple, who live in different cities with Konrad based in Melbourne while Abbie resides in Sydney, suggested it was a recent development, after they began dating in November.
Their relationship got off to a rocky start when Abbie went public with her relationship with Konrad while he was still appearing on The Bachelorette, which Brooke claimed “tainted” her season.
“I’m not a hostile person and literally do not have any hate in my heart. I put my heart and soul into (the show). Not only that but for what it meant for the LGBTQIA+ and First Nations community to have that display of representation,” Brooke began.
“For that to be tainted ONCE again by 1. To someone I thought was a close friend. 2. Another white woman displaying what white privilege looks like. 3. A very clear display of narcissism. Hurts me. Literally pains me.”
Responding to Brooke’s statement, Abbie wrote that she was “sorry” and that she hadn’t taken into account “the inherent privilege that I hold as a white woman.”
“I now understand the timing of publicly sharing our relationship should have been more considered and that is my fault. I acknowledge that impact outweighs intent. I didn’t take into account the Australian media landscape and the inherent privilege that I hold as a white woman,” Abbie wrote.
“My actions had the potential to undermine the importance that this pivotal season of The Bachelorette holds to the First Nations and LGBTQIA+ Communities. This is an extremely important conversation to be having.”
