Hamish Blake surprises staff at The Iconic by hijacking Monday meeting Zoom call

The Iconic’s executive team were gobsmacked when none other than Hamish Blake popped up in their morning meeting via Zoom.

Hamish Blake has been bringing the social-distancing joy with his cheeky Instagram posts of late, and now he’s going one further, randomly dropping in on Zoom calls around the nation.

After publicly volunteering to appear on conference calls by request, those game enough to have the rogue radio star surprise their bosses have been sharing hilarious tales of interrupted calls and confusion over the past three days.

It’s an initiative the funnyman is calling “Zoom for One More?”, and it might just be the best thing to come out of social distancing.

Using the popular workplace tool Zoom, which has exploded with the masses of people working from home, Hamish paid a virtual visit to fashion trader The Iconic’s executive team on Monday, infiltrating their morning meeting and claiming to be the company’s new head of finance.

Liz Anderson from the company told news.com.au the team were “blown away” by his presence.

“Everyone just kept saying, ‘is that Hamish Blake?’”

“Hamish told everyone he was the new CFO, then he was saying to Chris, our financial director, to ‘have that report to me by 4’.

“At one point our HR manager said she didn’t remember seeing him in the interview process, and he kept saying he was so surprised by how casual we all were while he was wearing a shirt and tie.”

But for one team member, the confusion didn’t lift throughout the meeting gag.

“It was funny because Alex, our chief marketing officer, is German and he was like ‘but who are you? What do you do?’ He had no idea who he was, which I’m sure Hamish found endearing,” Liz explained.

On Monday night, Hamish posted a compilation of his best Zoom for One More moments thus far, including a teachers’ meeting and air force flight log meeting.

“What are we gonna do about year 5?,” he says to the unsuspecting teachers in the first snippet below.

Next, he dials in to a team of pilots wearing a gold “flight jacket” and calling for a change of uniform.

And finally, in footage from his meeting bomb to The Iconic, he kicks off by saying, as “finance director”: “We have enough money in the budget to send every customer a $250 voucher.”

Liz revealed The Iconic’s CEO Erica Berchtold decided to treat her colleagues to brighten up a Monday morning working from home without the buzz of the office.

“She saw (Hamish’s post) while scrolling on Instagram and decided to give it a crack, so slid into his DMs last week which we all thought was just hilarious,” she said.

“She thought it would be a great start to the week to have him dial in to the Monday morning executive meeting, but then she sort of forgot about it too, so it was a big surprise for everyone.

“The photos have been shared around the company and a lot of people thought he was superimposed because they just didn’t believe it.

“Really it’s kudos to Erica for pulling it off and keeping spirits high at a time when we’re all dealing with this rolling uncertainty in retail and feeling heartbroken for our industry counterparts who are having to close their doors,” she added.

Hamish’s virtual visits began last week when he dropped in on a UniSA law tutorial with a few choice questions for the class, including “when’s the exam?” or “maybe everyone should just get Bs”.

“Seems like everyone is busy doing zoom meetings and classes while I sit here doing NO meetings and learning NOTHING from any classes,” Hamish said last Friday of the idea.

“That’s about to change. Send me your zoom meeting ID and a time (like Matt did for his UniSA law tutorial) and I’ll try to swing past for a bit. DM me over the weekend for meetings and classes next week. We’re all in this together guys so let’s really get down to work and learn some stuff and do some good meetings.”

Zoom for One More? is just one way Hamish has passed the time while the world adjusts to social distancing measures implemented to stop the spread of coronavirus.

Last week, the Lego Masters host donned a genuine NASA space suit in an effort to keep safe while out and about in public.

“Safety, science and spacesuits in the age of Corona,” he posted along with a video of his outdoor venture.

“Turns out if you spend years online buying everything, you’re accidentally ready for anything,” he added.

Earlier this month, Hamish also made a thoughtful shout out to risoni, the pasta item left behind by frenzied supermarket hoarders.

“Everybody is doing it tough right now but spare a thought for risoni,” he wrote beneath a photo of a supermarket’s pasta shelf stripped bare of all but risoni.

“Brutal way to find out where you sit in PPH (Pasta Popularity Hierarchy). Risoni I want you to know I’d absolutely use you as the noodle in a chicken noodle soup. I mean, not today, I’m only allowed 2 packs and I’m chasing rigatoni. But maybe next week. Stay in the fight,” he joked.

Meanwhile, Hamish’s two-year-old daughter Rudy melted hearts with an adorable “stay home” message posted to mum Zoe Foster Blake’s page last week.

The clip starts with Rudy saying: “Everybody listen up, you’ve got to stay home. If you don’t, I’ll scream.

In case viewers don’t believe her, the tiny two-year-old repeats her threat: “I’m going to scream so don’t be naughty.

“This is serious. Stay home. You have to stay home,” she said, wagging a finger for emphasis. “This is serious.”
