Gwyneth Paltrow’s shock career announcement

The former actress-turned-lifestyle-guru has shared an update about her future plans – and it’s rather unexpected.

Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed what’s next in her career after building her multimillion-dollar lifestyle and wellness empire.

The Shallow Hal star, who quit acting to focus on Goop, told Bustle that while she’s not yet “ready to sell” the business, she has been thinking ahead to what she’ll do when it happens “in a few more years”.

“I will literally disappear from public life. No one will ever see me again,” Paltrow, 51, told the publication, adding that she’s not afraid of leading a more relaxed lifestyle.

“We as women are so programmed to be busy,” she said. “It’s like a badge of honour, and we’ve all bought this thing from the patriarchy hook, line, and sinker that we have to be busy and overperforming. I’d like to move into the next phase more from a place of discovery and gentleness. To let life unfold, as opposed to ‘I’m not doing enough.’

“Because now, if I fully take a weekend off, sometimes I’ll start to feel anxious, like, ‘Oh, my God, what should I be doing?’ Even when I’m trying to relax, I’ll think, ‘OK, I’ll sit down with a great novel!’ And it’s like, Jesus, can you not just sit down and daydream?”

Paltrow launched Goop as a weekly newsletter in 2008, and quickly built it into a major lifestyle brand, selling clean cosmetics and candles and even producing a Netflix documentary series.

It’s now estimated to be worth around US$250 million (A$395 million).

Last year, she opened up about quitting Hollywood in an interview with the US Today show, explaining that the negative reaction to her winning the Best Actress Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love marked a big turning point in her career.

“I think it was probably around the time of winning the Oscar where you go from people kind of being curious about you or discovering you or rooting for you to it all being up-ended, and people really wanting to tear you down and take great pleasure in it,” Paltrow said.

“Which ends up being a really beautiful lesson in knowing who you are. Loving the people you love. Being totally in integrity. And like f**k everybody else.”
