Hilarious detail in Gwyneth Paltrow’s Vogue house tour

Gwyneth Paltrow gave Vogue a tour of the ridiculously lush grounds of her home – but one detail made them stop in their tracks.

Actress turned wellness guru Gwyneth Paltrow gave Vogue a tour of her home in the Hamptons for the latest video in their 73 Questions With … series – and it’s just as lush as you’d expect.

Wearing a simple slip dress and barely any make-up, Paltrow pads around the grounds of her property barefoot, holding a woven basket to collect food from her industrial-sized veggie patch, before lingering at her Olympic-sized outdoor swimming pool.

She could open her own Woolies.

But amid all this quiet luxury, an absolute baller move from Paltrow midway through the video: As she ushers the cameraman from one area of her garden to the next, through an open gate, the camera lingers for a second to reveal what’s holding the gate open:

Ladies and gentlemen, meet Oscar.

“What a beautiful Academy Award,” the cameraman says.

“My doorstop! It works perfectly,” Paltrow quips.

That would be the Best Actress Academy Award she won in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, one of the most controversial wins in Oscars history as she beat out a crowded field that included favourites Cate Blanchett and Meryl Streep.

We’re going to hazard a guess that this was a visual joke set up specially for viewers, and that Paltrow doesn’t actually leave her Academy Award out in the elements, propping open her back gate (and if she does, let’s hope she moved it inside by the time the video dropped).

But Paltrow has spoken in the past about how intense it was winning the most coveted award in her industry so early on in her career.

“[When] you win the biggest prize, like, what are you supposed to do? And where are you supposed to go?” she said in May of winning the award at just 26.

“It was hard, the amount of attention that you receive on a night like that and the weeks following.”

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she called the experience “disorienting” and “really unhealthy.”

“Not that I would give it back or anything. It was an amazing experience, but it kind of called a lot of things into question for me,” she said.
